Licensed Professional Counselor in Somerville, NJ

--

Meet Rob Chaseman, LPC (they/them/theirs):

Hey! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor at Olive Branch Therapy Group, as well as a professional musician. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a major in Psychology and a minor in Jazz Studies in 2001. I have worked as a counselor, as well as a musician, since that time.

Before working at Olive Branch Therapy Group, I have had experience working as an activist with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, as a counselor at a community mental health center, as a counselor at a partial and intensive outpatient hospital.

My Therapy Specialties:

I have worked with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, with diverse backgrounds experiencing a wide range of difficulties. Specifically, I have worked with clients struggling with life stressors and transitions, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship issues and interpersonal conflict, identity and existential issues, to dissociative disorders, mood disorders and thought disorders.

I have a particular interest in working with those who possess curiosity and motivation to reflect upon, and explore themselves in ways that promote personal growth.

What drew me to this work:

I was inspired to learn about psychology and philosophy after developing a desire to understand the world I lived in and my place in it. This desire was created by my personal experiences struggling with my own mental health issues throughout my life. This inspiration to learn, which was important and beneficial to me, led to a passionate mission to share my own experiential and clinical insight in a way to empower others to find their own meaning and fulfillment in their lives.

My style:

If you’re a child, an adolescent, young adult, or older adult that may be suffering in some way, struggling with adversities, or you’re just trying to figure something out, I’m here to empower you to navigate through it.

I use empathetic attunement, along with other therapeutic modalities, to best understand your own personal experience of what it’s like to be the individual you are. This way I can provide the appropriate guidance that is necessary, as you change your life in ways that are healthy, meaningful and fulfilling to you.

My clients have described me as “kind”, “thoughtful”, “funny”, “laid back”, “meeting them where they’re at no matter what they say”, “empathetic” “silly”, “calm”, “a good listener”, “serious”, and “understanding”. I just try to be myself, which I perceive as being genuinely interested in everyone I meet, and passionate about making others feel like it’s absolutely OK to be themselves, in any moment. I also make a real effort to be there for my clients in any way I can, compassionately, creatively, and clinically, in an effort to give them some comfort in the discomfort, that sometimes comes along with growing and making changes in their lives.

Services I offer:

In-person individual, couple, and family therapy.
